Press and Cultural Heritage: what partnership for the sustainable
conservation
Context: Since the end of 1990, EPA and the Africa 2009 Programme have been working with African cultural institutions in order to develop a greater awareness for the preservation of sites, buildings and historical monuments. Public opinion is still little aware of these issues as is testified by the frequent destruction and degradation of cultural heritage. Unfortunately, these losses are irreversible. The success of the struggle for the safeguarding and the promotion of African cultural heritage depends on the cooperation between media professionals and heritage professionals. That is why EPA and the Africa 2009 Programme are collaborating to inform and debate with media professionals on issues concerning the implication of their audiences for an efficient and sustainable use of the educational, cultural and economic potentials of African cultural heritage.
